General Liability (also known as Commercial General Liability) can pay for damages you become legally obligated to pay due to bodily injury, property damage, libel, slander, personal and/or advertising injury sustained by a third party. It is considered an essential coverage, even though it does not cover all the risks that your business may face.
A General Liability policy can cover damages occurring at your physical location, such as a slip and fall, as well as covering claims that occur due to a faulty or finished product or even copyright infringement, libel or slander. It does not cover claims brought on by employees. General Liability coverage is dependent on how the policy is written, policy exclusions and whether it is a claims-made or occurrence policy.
