Employment Practices Liability

Employment Practices Liability (also known as EPLI or EPL) can cover lawsuits brought by employees (past, present or prospective) or governmental entities against the agency, alleging wrongful discharge, discrimination or certain types of harassment. The policy can pay for legal expenses, judgments and settlements, but usually does not pay for punitive damage, civil or criminal fines.

EPLI can be purchased as a stand-alone coverage or could be a part of your Directors and Officers Liability policy.

 Common Claim Examples:

  • Sexual Harassment

  • Discrimination

  • Wrongful termination

  • Wrongful employment decisions

  • Breach of employment contract

  • Wrongful discipline

  • Infliction of Emotional Distress

  • Whistle blowing

A robust risk management plan can help minimize future claims by creating solid hiring practices, proper

training of managers, and clear workplace policies.
